We are looking at all the things you need to know about the Sassa extension. Things that you might not know, or that you might be wondering about. Now, you will know if you can still apply for the grant, what happens when you file a reconsideration application and other essential information.

The R350 grant has been extended for another year

This is official. The President of South Africa has extended the R350 for another year. Now, you can receive the R350 until the end of March 2023. This is for those that aren’t working and that doesn’t have any other form of income.

And, don’t think that when you applied once, you will get the R350 for another year, even if you found work and have a source of income. This grant is getting evaluated each month, and only if you are still qualifying for the job, you will get the grant. They cancel the grant immediately if they see that you don’t qualify anymore.

Applications are still being done online during the Sassa extension

There are rumors that only those that applied for the Sassa R350 during the first release of the grant can still receive the grant. That applications have been closed and no one else can apply for the grant.

This isn’t true. You can still apply for the Sassa R350 until it closes next year when the extension is done. If you qualify for the R350 SRD, you can apply for it. There is no deadline on the extension, you just need to make sure that you only apply if you meet the requirement. These are the requirements, for those that don’t know it yet.

  • You need to be older than 18 years
  • Must be unemployed and not receive any form of income
  • You also should not receive any other social grants from Sassa
  • You should not qualify for unemployment insurance and should not receive it as well
  • You should not receive a stipend from the National student financial aid scheme
  • You need to live in South Africa and have a barcoded ID

When you lodge a reconsideration application

This is a mistake that many people are making. When they are applying for reconsideration, they are applying only once. Then, they think that the reconsideration will be done for all the months you didn’t receive the application.

However, this isn’t the truth. You need to lodge a reconsideration application for each month that you didn’t receive the SRD. Meaning that if you didn’t get the SRD for the last 4 months, you will need to lodge an application four times. One for each of the months you didn’t receive the SRD. If you only apply once for the reconsideration and it was approved, you will only receive one month’s payment.

R350 recipients are encouraged to open a bank account during the Sassa extension

With the Sassa extension done, Sassa recommends that people should start applying for a bank account. This is making the payments easier, and you don’t need to stand in a queue for the whole day to receive the payments.

If you are getting a bank account, it will be easier for you to withdraw your money, and for Sassa to pay the money within your account. It also limits the chance of being robbed of your money or getting scammed. The only problem is that some of the banks are asking for banking fees. So, you need to be careful when you are applying for a bank account. You should choose a bank with the least amount of fees.

General information you still need to know

What other information do you need to know, about the R350 extension? The extensions are till March 2023, but there are rumors that the President might make this permanent. This is something that might be announced in the near future.
