How can you withdraw grant payments you receive from your Sassa card? There are four places where you can withdraw your payments. They are the pay points of Sassa, certain merchant stores, non-participating stores, and ATM. We are discussing everything you need to know about the four methods.

Sassa cash pay points

The first payment method and the most popular one is the Sassa cash pay points. You can only go to the pay point on a specific day that the Sassa offices allocate to you. The time that they are allowing you to withdraw money is between 09:0 0and 16:00.

There are a couple of things that you will need to do at the pay point before you can receive your money:

  • You will be asked to put your Sassa card into the payment machine. A CPS payment officer will assist if you struggle.
  • You will need to place one of your fingers onto the scanner to verify your fingerprint and to verify that you are the person you claim to be.
  • With your fingerprint verified, you can decide how much money you want to withdraw from your card. The limit will depend on if you have given proof of residence with the application.
  • You will receive your cash, through the payment machine and you will receive a receipt stating the money you want to withdraw.
  • The withdrawal is free of charge. Meaning that you won’t pay any bank charges.

Some merchant stores

With some of the merchant stores, you can also withdraw money from your Sassa card. You don’t need to wait for a specific day, and you can withdraw the money during operation hours. If you don’t know what the nearest merchant store is, you can call the CPS call center. This will be a lot faster and easier than going to the Sassa pay points.

  • You will need to verify your identity by placing your finger at the fingerprint scanner. Or, you should key in your secret PIN.
  • Once you are verified, you can decide how much money you want to withdraw from the card.
  • The store assistant will give you the money you requested with a slip about how much money you still have available on your Sassa card.
  • This withdrawal is also free of charge. ATMs within the stores will ask for banking fees, just like normal ATMs.

Using ATM to withdraw grant payments

One of the benefits of using your Sassa grant payment card is that you can withdraw money from any ATM. You can withdraw money during the day or night. You can get instant money at any time you need to get cash.

  • With your Sassa card, you will place your card in the card reader slot and key in your PIN.
  • Once the ATM has verified that the pin is correct, you can choose from what account you want to withdraw money from.
  • You can also select the amount of money you wish to withdraw. You can’t withdraw more than R5,000 at a time.
  • The money will be dispensed by the ATM and you will receive a receipt on the amount you withdraw and the amount you still have available.
  • You will pay for the withdrawal. Normal banking fees will be charged to your account. Depending on the bank, this can end up a huge sum of money at the end of the month.

Certain non-participating stores for grant payments

This is something that people don’t know.  That you can withdraw your grant payments from non-participating stores as well. You just need to know what stores you actually can use for the payments.

  • A cashier or store assistant will take your card from you and insert it into a point-of-sale device.
  • You will need to add your pin to the machine so that you can be verified. The code needs to be the correct number in order for you to withdraw money.
  • You will tell the cashier or store assistant the amount you want to withdraw.
  • You will receive your money and get a slip about the amount you still have available on your card.
  • The charge of using a non-participating store isn’t free of charge. Normal transaction rates will apply. You will also be charged to your manager.

Now you know that you can use the Sassa pay-point a merchant store, ATM, and a non-participating store to withdraw money. Some of these methods are asking a fee for withdrawing from them. However, some are offering free service to the participating and non-participating stores. The only thing that all four have in common is that you can withdraw money, paying banking fees, or not paying banking fees.
