Previous rules and regulations about changing payment options

Did you know that before 2021, there were some rules and regulations about changing your payment methods? Regulations that aren’t being used anymore.  The problem is that many still think that these rules and regulations are active.

  • You could have only changed your payment method in a certain time period. After the period, you couldn’t change your payment method anymore.
  • The time window was during the first week of every month. This is normally when social grants were paid.
  • This was also the only time when you could have changed any address updates.

But it all changed, because of the Covid 19 pandemic. The whole process of collecting grants has changed between 2020 and 2021.

New rules and regulations

It’s important to know the new rules and regulations about changing your payment method for social grants.  Sassa has made it easier to change your payment method, or if you want to update any information on your profile.  These are the new rules and regulations about changing the way you are getting paid.

  • You can do it throughout the month.
  • You can submit the changes directly on the website; you can phone the Sassa helpline. Or, you can go directly to the nearest Sassa office for assistance.

These changes were made, not only because of the Covid pandemic but because many people have complaint about the old regulations of changing and updating payment methods.

Different payment options you have with Sassa grant

Before you can just go and change your payment method for the Sassa grant, you will need to know what your options are.  With most social grants, the payment method options are the same. You can choose between:

  • Get your grants by different Sassa pay points. All of the post offices are pay points for the Sassa grants. You can only go on a certain date, depending on the type of grant you are getting.
  • You can go to other, selected stores for collecting your grants. These are mostly Pick n Pay and Boxer stores. With Pick n Pay stores, you can’t get your grant from Pick n Pay liquor store and Pick n Pay clothing. All the other Pick n Pay stores are pay points.
  • You can also get your payments through your bank. Meaning that they are depositing your grant into your bank account. This is the most convenient, but you will pay banking fees for the deposit and for withdrawing your money again.

  • Bank account payments. As mentioned you can let the payment be deposited into your bank account, but you will pay banking fees.

However, changing your banking fees is the same as the other grant payments.
